Four GP14's made it to the event. As to the
rest "Waar was jy?"
. Saturday saw the usual rush and a push to get the
boats rigged and onto the water.
Once on the water for a start we got in two
races before lunch in what I would term "normal Benoni" sailing
ie a
bit a breeze and some crazy switches making the tactical brain work overtime.
For fun we had another GP sailor on his Enterprise mixing it up with the four of
us and really giving us head aches upwind.
After lunch we had another race and
the last race was abandoned due to the compete disappearance of the wind.
Sunday
dawned with the dam looking like a mirror. So as we waited we talked, well,
about what most sailors talk about - sailing!
Some of us gave advice on boat setup and a few other things. Hopefully this transfer of knowledge will continue
as we try to
get everyone up to speed. All of a sudden we had to go sailing as there were two ripples on the dam.
In unbelievable conditions we got in another two "crazy" races.
Dont get me wrong, it was still much more fun sailing in this than sitting on the shore - although the grumbling
and complaining on my boat sometimes suggests the opposite. Well done to all four of us for pitching,
we had fun and the racing was close! Sorry you all missed it. As a note of concern I would like the Benoni GP members
to please urge their club to do something (not that I have an answer) about the state of the dam.
The amount of weeds compared to a year ago is alarming. I hope a plan is being implemented to sort this out,
or we will loose one of our traditional sailing waters here in the Vaal. GP14 Results were as follows:
1. Mark Biagio/ Steven Doubell
2. David Santiero/ PeterMarcia
3. Trefon Katakuzinos/ Costa Perdikis
4. Farid Essack/van Eeden
